Seeing Jesus

Key Takeaways

  • We are all starved for transcendence, seeking it in places and patterns.

  • True transcendence is found only in the gaze of Jesus.

  • Seeing Jesus transforms us to become more like him.

This Week’s Liturgy & Playlist

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’

People: Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

Matthew 21:5, 9

Confession of Faith

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23

Confession of Sin

Father, on Palm Sunday, we confess: like the crowds, we look to Jesus for what we want—not for who he is. We seek transcendence through places and patterns, but resist the Savior who set his face toward the cross. We trade the radiance of your son for the comfort of religion or the illusion of control. Forgive us. Fix our eyes on Jesus, and satisfy us with the glory of his face.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.

Psalm 118:4-5
