About this ministry

In Explorers, kids learn how the whole Bible points to Jesus and their need for a personal relationship with him. Kids see what it means to participate in a church community and can make a profession of faith in a Communicants class. Explorers also visit Transformation Station where storytellers share the truths of Scripture through skits and videos.

Questions? Please look at our FAQs or email Mary Berndt, Director of Children’s Ministry.

Ministry Questions

The children will read Scripture and discuss how it relates to the character of God. They will experience a time of prayer and a game that reinforces the lesson. The group will take a trip to Transformation Station to watch gifted storytellers bring the lesson to life. The children will practice Scripture memory through song.

Transformation Station is a place where storytellers make the Bible lesson come to life through live characters, puppets, and videos in a lively theater setting.

We serve first through third graders in Explorers.

We serve 1st graders during the first service at 9 a.m. We serve all 1st – 3rd graders during the second service at 10:30 a.m.

Yes! All volunteers are thoroughly vetted, background checked and trained to make sure your child receives the best care in the safest environment.

Ours is a well-child ministry, so please be sure your kids are free of the following symptoms for 24 hours: fever, runny nose, chronic cough, throat infections, diarrhea or any contagious illness. Children will use hand sanitizer upon arrival, and each room will be thoroughly cleaned before and after children’s programming.

We will contact you by text or, if necessary, by calling. Please keep your phone on vibrate in the worship center so we can easily reach you.

Goldfish crackers and lemonade/water are offered to the children from 10:15-10:40 a.m.

Drop-Off: Parents will use the kiosks in the elementary lobby to print child’s name tag and parent badge. Parents will then escort children to their classrooms.

Visitors should stop by the Elementary Desk to receive a child nametag and parent badge.

Children’s ministry volunteers will be ready to assist you with check-in and finding your child’s classroom.

Pick-Up: Parents will pick up children in their classrooms. A parent badge must be presented to the teacher in order for a child to be picked up. If parents are picking up children of different classrooms be sure to tear the parent badge in half so each parent receives a sticker.

If you have lost your parent badge, you must retrieve a new one from the elementary desk.

Every fall, West End offers a communicants class to students in third grade or above who want to make a confession of faith in Jesus. Kids will share their faith with an elder and their parents, learn more about the sacraments of baptism and communion and gain a better understanding of what it means to follow Jesus.

Classes are open to kids who have parents that are members of West End.

Please email Mary Berndt, Director of Children’s Ministry, to begin the process of becoming a volunteer. Once the application has been processed, you will be trained prior to serving in the classroom.
